Important Prieur Mask Notice

If you have purchased a Foil or Epee mask from Prieur USA or an authorized Prieur USA distributor, or more generally if you are an athlete residing in the United States or Canada and own one of these masks, please read the following information.

The Prieur mask is equipped with a patented bib attachment system that has provided it with the expected safety and durability for this type of equipment. This system has made the PRIEUR mask unique and recognizable for over 40 years

However, SEMI, the committee responsible for regulating equipment within the FIE and inspecting it during international competitions, asked us to upgrade this fastening system to bring it into compliance with the new SEMI standards and to facilitate inspection operations during FIE competitions.

The conclusion of our technical discussions with SEMI has therefore led us to propose a change to the fastening of the chin guard and ring on our Epee and Foil masks. This change has been implemented on all masks manufactured since June 2025 and consists in particular of the addition of an extra rivet on the ring at chin level.

This change, requested by SEMI, must be present on all Prieur masks presented during weapon checks at FIE and US competitions for the upcoming 2025-2026 season.

Therefore, if your mask does not feature this easily identifiable change, we offer to perform this update for you and thus avoid the purchase of a new mask when yours is in good condition.

The modification will be provided free of charge. To ensure shipping costs are covered, please contact us at the following email address to obtain a return label.

How can I check if my mask is the latest version?

If you see a fastening under the chin, as shown in the picture below, your mask is already the latest version.

If you don’t see a fastening under the chin, as shown in the picture below, your mask needs to be retrofitted.

My mask is 350N and not FIE-1600N—should I return it to you?

Short answer: Yes, we do recommend it. Weapon checks at events may not always distinguish between mask types, and without the update, your mask could be refused even if it’s not strictly required for 350N masks. Returning it ensures compliance and peace of mind.

I don’t fence in competitions—should I return my mask to you?

You don’t have to, but if you ever decide to participate in a competition (even casually), you’ll be glad you did. The free update aligns with evolving standards, so it’s a proactive step for any fencer.

In doubt? Contact us at: bonjour@prieurusa.com

We understand that the competition season is about to start again, so we promise to retrofit your mask as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your understanding.
