Selecting the Correct Size

Measurements

Jacket Sizing

  • Height: Measure from the bottom of your foot to the top of your head.
  • Chest: Measure the circumference of your chest, just below your armpits and over the shoulder blades.
  • Waist: Measure the circumference of your waist, between the top of your hip and your lowest rib.

Pants Sizing

  • Height: Measure from the bottom of your foot to the top of your head.
  • Waist: Measure the circumference of your waist, between the top of your hip and your lowest rib.
  • Hip: Measure the circumference of your hips, at the fullest part of your hips.

Once you have all of these measurements, use our Prieur sizing chart to determine your size.

Note: Some fencers may prefer their uniform loose; for these fencers, we recommend going one size up from your measurements.

Trying On for Fit

We highly recommend trying any fencing uniform on before purchasing when possible. This will ensure the fit is correct and comfortable.

  • Testing Mobility and Comfort: Ensure the uniform allows for a full range of motion throughout all fencing movements, such as lunges, extensions, and fleches. The uniform should not restrict your movement or feel too tight.

How to Keep Your Fencing Uniform Clean

Basic Care Tips

  • Regular Cleaning: Wash your uniform regularly to remove sweat and dirt. Check the care label for specific washing instructions. For Prieur fencing uniforms, machine washing with cold water and mild detergent is recommended. Wash it separately or with similar colors to avoid any staining. Avoid using strong chemicals like bleach, as these can damage the fabric.
  • Drying Tips: Air drying is the best way to dry your fencing uniform. High heat from a dryer can shrink the fabric and damage the protective layers. Hang the uniform to dry in a well-ventilated area.
  • Additional Tip: Always remove your uniform from your fencing bag after practice or competition. This will prevent moisture build-up, which can cause bacteria to develop and lead to unpleasant odors.

Conclusion

Selecting the right fencing uniform is crucial for safety, comfort, and performance in fencing. By understanding your needs and the options available, you can ensure that you choose the best uniform for your level and style of play. Regular care and maintenance will also help extend the life of your uniform, making it a worthwhile investment in your fencing journey.
